Most dogs can be sized by weight alone. Find your dog's weight in the chart. If your dog is between 30 and 36 lb, or between 55 and 70 lb, measure the chest as well: the chest decides.
| Size | Dog's weight | Chest | Waist |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 7–33 lb (3–15 kg) | 12–26 in (30.5–66 cm) | 12–24 in (30.5–61 cm) |
| M | 33–66 lb (15–30 kg) | 24–33 in (61–84 cm) | 19–31 in (48–79 cm) |
| L | 66–132 lb (30–60 kg) | 31–46 in (79–117 cm) | 27–37 in (69–94 cm) |
These are the maker's measurements, rounded to the nearest inch. A tape measure can easily be out by an inch, which is why weight comes first.
How to measure the chest
With your dog standing, put a soft tape around the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs. Snug, not tight.
When the chest decides
- If the chest sits where two sizes overlap (24–26 in, or 31–33 in), go down one size. A loose rear loop is what slips, and older dogs often lose muscle over the hips.
- Both pieces come in one size. If your dog has a very deep chest, or the chest and the weight point to different sizes, ask us before you order and we'll check the rear will fit too.
- A chest over 46 in is too big for this harness.
Three examples
- A 48 lb dog with a 28 in chest: M.
- A 33 lb dog: measure. Chest up to 26 in: S. Over 26 in: M.
- A 62 lb Labrador: measure. Chest up to 33 in: M. Over 33 in: L.
Still not sure?
Text a side photo and your dog's weight to (949) 676-7685 or email help@hindlift.com. We'll pick the size and reply within 1 US business day. It's worth asking: a swap means another 2–4 weeks before your dog has the right one.
If the size is still wrong when it arrives, we send the right one free and you keep the first. How the size swap works.
Fit check when it arrives
- Chest piece buckled behind the front legs, with two fingers' room under the strap.
- Rear loops high on the thigh, up near the hip.
- Tighten until nothing turns when you lift gently.
- Shoulder strap adjusted so there's a little tension when you lift.
